Silk is the most refined, durable, and yet very delicate fabric. It breathes perfectly, regulates body temperature, and doesn't attract dust mites or bacteria, so it won't irritate even the most delicate skin. With proper care, it will last for many years.
We know that it can seem like a difficult and daunting fabric, especially when it comes to care, so we've prepared a few tips to help you care for it properly.
Dry cleaning is the safest and always recommended method. If you don't have access to a dry cleaning service, you can easily do it yourself.
Remember 4 things: cold water, mild detergent, no friction, and drying in the shade. As simple as that.
Important information to always keep in mind:
- Use lukewarm or cold water - the darker the color, the lower the water temperature should be
- Choose a delicate fabric detergent, natural shampoo or gentle baby soap (avoid bleach and harsh detergents)
- Soak the silk in water with diluted detergent and gently knead to remove dirt.
- Forget about rubbing, rubbing, and long soaking times. After a maximum of 5-10 minutes, remove the silk from the water.
- Rinse thoroughly and squeeze out excess water in a towel - lay it flat, then roll it up and press gently (never wring it out)
- Hang it on a thick hanger in the shade or lay it flat and let it dry naturally. Avoid direct sunlight.
- Iron silk on the inside out, using a steamer or a classic iron with a silk program recommended by the manufacturer. If you have any concerns, you can use a cloth made of natural fabric.
In addition:
Avoid sharp edges, e.g. in jewelry or accessories, which can snag delicate fibers.
Do not spray perfume on silk, and be careful with antiperspirants, which can permanently damage the fabric.
